Small but beneficial gifts

Update 13/05/15

Update 11-08-13

You may remember a year ago this month we had a just giving page in order to collect enough for a Water Well in Pakistan. They said it takes around 9 months to complete. After waiting 11 months I finally get a response from them after not knowing anything about this despite me sending an email at the beginning, here is the response

Salaam Somayya,

I hope you are well.

I have looked into the donation and it seems that because of an administration error your funds were allocated to an emergency most needed fund.
This is why the donation was not flagged for me to instruct. Therefore the water well is yet to be built.
I apologise for this and assure you that we have been able to improve our donation and tracking systems in 2013 which should mean that this will not happen in the future.

I will instruct the well insha'Allah and you will receive your report in 6 months’ time insha'Allah.
I apologise again for the error and thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I will be in touch upon completion of the well.

Best wishes.

So there will be no picture here until another 6 months bi ihdnIllah
Alhamdulillah when it comes I will add the picture.

Update 04-08-13

Alhamdulillah so far we have paid for 16 chickens, 6 fruit trees and 2 olive trees.
Jazakum'Allahu Khairan. I will post the pics of the certificates when they arrive Insha'Allah.

We are going to be raising small amounts of funds for different needs on this page.
From fruit trees to mosquito nets via Muslim hands Great Charity Gifts section.

Feel free to do them yourself or join us to make it possible for those on a low income to share it the rewards.

Here is the link for anyone wishing to do this independently  http://muslimhands.org.uk/great-charity-gifts/browse/ or check this blog regularly to see which gift we will collect for at the time.

We will only be asking for £1-£2 each for each gift.

The first collection will be for 5 Fruit Trees.
Each tree cost just £20 so we need to raise £100 for all 5 Insha'Allah

If variety is the spice of life, then these fruit trees are no exception. Ranging from mangos and papayas to mulberries, planting a fruit tree provides communities with food appropriate to their local diet, brings environmental benefits and also provides income as surplus fruit can be sold.

Our next gift will be 20 chickens Insha'Allah. each gift contains 4 chickens at just £16 so we will collect enough for 5 gifts at the total cost of £80.

These domestic animals are one of the finest gifts you could give as they are low maintenance and each can lay over 200 eggs a year providing families with protein in their diet. Surplus eggs can be sold to pay for schooling, clothes and medicine.

I will ad more gifts along the way depending on how quickly we can provide for each gift.

So please feel free to buy your own gifts or join us with a £1 or £2 donation via Paypal to mekkaouis@yahoo.com

They send out certificates once the gifts are paid for as you may have seen in a previous post so I will post the pictures for those as soon as possible.

Jazakum'Allahu Khairan for you support, may Allah accept all our efforts for His sake alone and All prais eis for Him.

These are the trees they provide for £20

And the chickens they provide too

Update 10-08-13

We were recently asked for a wheelchair for a Moroccan Grandma.
In just a few hours we had raised enough to buy one Subhan'Allah

Also some shopping essentials for another family in Morocco

Helping those nearest to us too. Let us not forget them...

Assalaamu alaykum wa Rahmatulaahi wa Barakatu.

Alhamdulillah Ramadhan is upon us and flying by so quickly.
We are busy preparing iftar, suhoor, eid gifts etc.
Donating to charities to help our brothers and sisters, sending our zakat 'back home'

Alhamdulillah this is all very good Subhan'Allah and this is in no way meant to stop anyone from these righteous acts but, we should also remember those closest to us too.
Not as in family but those closest to our homes.
Living in the West, we tend to be more comfortable to a certain extent.
Even when we are not working we usually have some form of help as in benefit etc. Many, many countries do not have this facility and are struggling on a daily basis, not knowing where or if they will eat each day.
Because their need is great we should try to alleviate their hardships by giving sadaqa/zakat as much as we are able.

Now, some of us may also be unaware of the need of many in the UK too. Yes they may receive benefit, food stamps etc but there are also some who have 'no recourse to public funds'
This means that they cannot claim any benefit, work or accept any help from a government organisation.
Imagine being in this situation. Imagine not knowing when you can feed your children Subhan'Allah.

Last year, we were made aware of such a sister with children. Alhamdulillah we managed to raise enough to buy her meat, chicken, rice and food items.

Also. as a gift for another sister recently, we bought some food for her and her children for Ramadhan. Although her need was no where as great as the above sister, I felt that this small gift would bring them some relief and happiness.

Alhamdulillah Solace have reached their target for Samantha so no more donations for her cause but, they still have many sisters in need so to make a general donation please click on the Solace link below.

Now, we have been made aware of a sister in the UK with 'no recourse to public funds'.
She is being cared for by www.solaceuk.org who are trying to raise enough funds to help her very sad situation.
If you are in a position to help then please click on the Solace link to donate. Please DO NOT donate for Samantha via this blog. You can read her story here....

Asalamu alaikum
Dearest Brothers and Sisters,
We recently launched our new video to highlight the problems revert sisters encounter after they take their shahaadah. If you haven't seen it, you can watch it here:http://www.solaceuk.org/index.php/donate/donate-to-solace
Today, we need your help for Sister Samantha...
SISTER SAMANTHA (REVERT OF 2 YEARS) is struggling to eat, often rationing food and sharing a single bed with her 5 year old daughter in a tiny box room. This isn’t abroad, this is in the UNITED KINGDOM!
Last week, SOLACE visited Sister Samantha in her box room in which she shares a single bed with her 5 year old daughter in a houseshare with non Muslims. Samantha became Muslim 2 years ago. Samantha and her daughter are literally surviving via the kind donations of brothers and sisters. She is not entitled to receive ANY benefits.
PLEASE TAKE JUST 2 MINUTES FROM YOUR TIME TO READ THIS EMAIL. IT WILL MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO SAMANTHA AND HER 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. IT IS OUR DUTY AS A MUSLIM COMMUNITY TO HELP THEM.
(All details are true except Samantha's name which has been changed to protect her identity)
Please note SOLACE can confirm that checks have been carried out to verify Samantha’s situation. We have seen documentation, met her in person in her appalling living conditions and confirm this is a legitimate case. We have been providing support to Samantha for over a year now.
Sister Samantha is a revert who has been a Muslim for two years. She has one daughter aged 5 and is struggling to pay for her single box room, bills and food for her and her daughter.
She cannot claim benefits and has no recourse to public funds at all. She currently cleans three times a week for 2 hours and with that little money tries to ration food for her and her daughter.
Samantha became Muslim 2 years ago. Her whole life has been a test. Samantha became Muslim 2 years ago. Her whole life has been a test. She was abused as a child by various people around her and this continued into her adult life.  Of them, her mother’s partner, her mother's employer, though her mother knew about the sexual abuse, she did nothing.  She even suffered physical abuse from her previous partner.  As a non Muslim she used to admire the hijab and thought it was the appropriate way to dress. A sister gave her a Qu'ran to read and after reading it, she entered into the beautiful deen of Islam.
When the SOLACE Support Scheme Manager went to visit Samantha, she was extremely saddened that Samantha and her 5 year old daughter were living in a box room in a busy houseshare, had a tiny space in a shared fridge to store the little food that they somehow manage to buy, and were struggling to maintain what we would call essentials – a roof over their heads and food to eat.
If Samantha has to travel anywhere, they walk as they can’t afford the bus. Her daughter's school is a 45 minutes walk away from home. She tends not to go out much and remains cramped up in her box room which is her home.
Despite this, the Support Scheme Manager described Samantha as a very calm and gentle sister. She displays such high levels of gratitude to Allah and is always extremely grateful for any help that she receives and very rarely asks SOLACE for help despite her situation remaining unchanged. She is always speaking of Allah in good terms and prays a lot masha’Allah. Her emaan is clearly strong despite her current circumstances. She loves Allah very much and in her every day speech is constantly praising Him subhanaAllah. SOLACE have never heard her complain and she says that everything happens for a reason. When asked about her dreams for her life, she told SOLACE that she dreams that she will one day be able to sort things out for her and her daughter and that she can emotionally and physically become stronger. She also dreams to visit the House of Allah one day.
It is extremely difficult for her each month as she struggles to pay her rent. Whenever she does get any money for food, she has to be very careful about what she buys. We recently gave her some clothes for her daughter as her daughter didn’t have clothes in her correct size.
In this month of Ramadan where we splash out on foods that tickle our fancy, our sister of only 2 years in Islam is struggling with basic necessities.
There is light at the end of the tunnel for Samantha. A solicitor has advised that when her daughter turns 7 in November 2014 she can apply to become a resident in the UK and will no longer be in the situation that she is in. But until then, Samantha needs our help. SOLACE would like to call on ALL brothers and sisters to help Samantha so that we can:
1.Pay for her rent and bills until November 2014
2.Pay for her food and travel costs until November 2014 so that they can eat well and not have to walk far distances anymore.
3.We would like to look for alternative accommodation for Samantha. No Muslim woman should be living in such circumstances. Would we want for our wife, mother, sister or child to live in such circumstances. We would need to pay for one month’s rent and one month’s deposit in advance. However, we will not collect funds for this until we have found a new property for her.
4.We would like to raise money so that Samantha and her daughter can venture out, attend circles, and enjoy simple treats that we experience on a daily basis.
5.This Eid, we would like to make it special for Samantha and her daughter and would like to provide her daughter with Eid gifts and new clothes and an abaya for Samantha.
We have calculated that all of the above equals to £500 per month. So, from July 2013 to November 2014 this equates to £8500. By November 2014 we are hoping that she will have received her residency in the UK. So far we have raised £2030. We have £6470 left to raise.
Allah knows if Samantha has been making dua for relief but we feel very strongly about this case. When we asked her if she had any friends, she mentioned only two sisters – one that she sadly has lost contact with and the other sister was her SOLACE Support Worker. Allahu mustan! Wallahi it brought tears to our eyes.
We urge you to please donate via any of the listed ways on our donate page: http://www.solaceuk.org/index.php/donate/donate-to-solace Please add 'SAMANTHA' as a reference so that 100% of your donation can go towards her.
Please NOTE if you do donate, it is essential that you send an email to donate@solaceuk.org with your name, telephone number, date you donated, amount you donated and method (ie via paypal, direct bank transfer) so that if donations exceed the target amount for Samantha and her daughter, we can return your money to you.
Finally, the Prophet (saw) said: “Whoever alleviates [the situation of] one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and in the Hereafter.” Muslim
We hope no one will simply do nothing with this email. It is our hope that everyone who reads it will at least donate £1 towards this sister and forward it on.
Sadly, we receive many cases of revert sisters in difficulty struggling like this. Please kindly remember Samantha and the rest of the SOLACE service users in your duaa.
Wasalamu alaikum

As I said, please DO NOT donate for Samantha via this blog, I have just added her story here to make you aware of the needs of many revert sisters and the amazing work that Solace does on a daily basis.

Jazakum'Allahu Khairan

Although we did just buy a food pack for two sisters in Morocco.

Please do excuse the quality of the picture, it was taken by a sister with a very basic phone and this was the best we could do...

Alhamdulillah, if you could have heard the dua from the sisters it would make you cry. One was crying as she was talking to us as she really has limited funds. These parcels may be small to us but to someone who is in need, this can make a huge difference.

Give, for a change.....

Assalaamu alaykum wa Rahmatulaahi wa barakatu.

Give, for a change means exactly what it implies.
When we give, it makes a change in someone else's life.
Be it time, food, clothing, money for much needed medication, wheelchairs or medical aids, your donations can provide vitally important resources to those who need it most.

Subhan'Allah this project started in 2010 with the intention of helping those who need assistance in hard times.

Alhamdulillah Allah has blessed us with many, many kind and generous sisters/husbands whom I am blessed to know and some I have never met but the bond we share is 'Islam'.

I thank Allah every day for blessing me with guidance as only He can guide.

We are very passionate about helping anyone who needs us and I am sure you all feel the same.
We are not a charity, just a group of the Ummah who care about the needs of all.

We have seen many sisters come and go over the few years and are grateful for all the donations they have given us. Without Allah's permission though, none of this would be possible.

As we all know, Ramadhan is here and it's a wonderful opportunity for us to come closer to Allah and to strive even harder to perform good deeds for His sake; with the hope of gaining His pleasure at the same time insha'Allah.

As you know, this project runs on £1 a week donations which, Alhamdulillah have given us the opportunity to do some amazing things.

What makes us unique is that a lot of the people we have and do help are known to us personally by either myself or very trusted friends/family etc.

From day one we have been supporting many families known to us and on some occasions we have had to use charities as this is our only means of helping in some parts of the world.
Mainly the orphans except our dear orphan Imaan in Morocco.

We also do other collections in support of some large charities like raising funds for Tube Well builds or Orphan rooms etc as we, ourselves do not have the capacity to do this so we encourage others to donate just a few pounds to us until we gather enough for the such projects.

As you may know we have our monthly commitments that continually need our support, with the added bonus of a Hifdh child we will be sponsoring on a monthly basis Insha'Allah.

Alhamdulillah we raised £630 and have paid for a whole course for one child so far and this second child will be paid monthly Insha'Allah.

We are fortunate to be supporting 5 Orphans from, Morocco, Gaza, Sudan and Syria.
4 families in Morocco all in need of monthly medication, a family in Palestine whom have just lost their dear mother from cancer and an unwell divorced sister in Gambia with children amongst other smaller needs.

For a whole years sponsorship costs just £48 for all of the above which is just £4 a month.
Every penny we collect each month is divided between the above needs and distributed accordingly.
You can be assured that 100% goes to those in need as we have no overheads at all.
We are in need of more people like you to join us for either a one off payment of just £48 a year via Paypal to mekkaouis@yahoo.com or a regular monthly payment of £4.

Should you be in a position to give the whole year sponsorship of just £48 this will be divided over the year to give you maximum reward and also be included in other collections that we do.

We also have 3 just Giving pages at the moment

For widows and Orphans in Syria

Solace for revert sisters in difficulty

Feeding 20 countries during the last 10 days of Ramadhan

We have one dear sister with us who has so far, since last year managed to get yearly sponsorship from herself and 3 other family members and this year also another 3 family members whom all paid for the whole year Alhamdulillah.

Imagine the reward bi idhnillah that she will receive, not only for her own donation but that of her 5 family members too.

“O you who believe! Spend of that with which We have provided for you, before a Day comes when there will be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession. And it is the disbelievers who are the Zaalimoon (wrongdoers)”
[al-Baqarah 2:254]

Jazakum'Allahu Khairan.
May Allah accept our fasting, ibadah and reward us for our intention to help those who need it for His sake alone......Ameen

Rebuilding Masjid Bilal in Gaza

Assalaamu alaykum wa Rahmatulaahi wa Barakatu.

May this post find your Ramadhan full of barakah and righteousness and may Allah accept all our efforts for His sake alone. Ameen

We have made a pledge via UKIM to donate £500 towards the re build of masjid Bilal in Gaza.
It has been very badly damaged and we felt that we could be help be a part of this amazing form of sadaqa jariyah.

The best of sadaqah is given during the month of Ramadan. Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) was the most generous person, and he used to become more so (generous) particularly in the month of Ramadan…more generous than the fast wind in doing good” [Bukhari].

So far we are just over half way there but we need to reach the target asap.
Please give any amount from just £1 to share in the immense reward of facilitating the needs of around 2500 worshippers.

Please give via Paypal to mekkaouis@yahoo.com

Jazakum'Allahu Khairan

Update 20th July 2013

Alhamdulillah we have reached our target so no more donations are needed  now.

This is the receipt, apologies but I can't turn the pic as I'm not sure how  so I will get it done later on Insha'Allah.

Update 23rd July 2013

Alhamdulillah we exceeded the £150 needed for a food pack so we also donated towards 50 cooked Iftar meals for the Syrians in Jordan via Islamic Help.

 Jazakum'Allahu Khairan to you all.

In a Hadeeth (narration) on the authority of Zayd ibn Khaalid Al-Juhani  may Allaah be pleased with him he said that the Prophet  sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Whoever gives food to a fasting person to break his fast will have a reward like his without decreasing his reward in the slightest way.” [At-Tirmithi: Hasan Saheeh]

We did this in support of Islamic Help so anyone can donate directly to them but the reason we do it is to give eveyone the chance to participate in a whole pack. By asking you for £3 etc it makes it possible for anyone on a low income to also donate to us until we reach the amount needed.
These are the Ramadhan food packs they provide

And we also paid for the 50 iftar meals although this is the receipt

Sponsor a Hifdh child

Assalaamu alaykum,

Update 09.01.17

Alhamdulillah one of our Hifdh Sponsorship has completed his 3 and a half year course. we paid for the entire course back in July 2013. below is hie last report from last year. Alhamdulillah I spoke with them today and he has now completed the course

Update 25-09-13

Alhamdulillah we now have the confirmation from UWT of one of our hifdh child sponsorships below.

Update 21-08-13

Alhamdulillah we are now sponsoring another hifdh child from Pakistan. The first child below we have paid for the whole course but the new child will be paid for monthly with your £4 a month donations.

Alhamdulillah we are now supporting a hifdh child for the next 3 and a half years bi ihdnaillah via Ummah Welfare Trust.
We managed to raise £630 to pay for the course and they will supply us with a yearly update Insha'Allah. As soon as we receive the verification I will post it here Insha'Allah.

As you may know The Prophet Muhammad Salallahu 'alaihi wasallam emphasised the importance of providing education stating: 'The best amongst you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it.' - Sahih al-Bukhari

Our aim during Ramadhan and beyond  bi ihdnIllah is to sponsor another child which we will pay on a monthly basis until the course is complete. Please do join us for just £1 a week to support this much needed cause. For the monthly support please donate via Paypal to mekkaouis@yahoo.com not via Ummah Welfare Trust, as we will be setting up a standing order with them Insha'Allah.

The Ummah is becoming weaker by the day, many trials and problems which we are being faced with but, our hearts lie in duniyah matters and we seem to have forgotten that Allah is in control of everything.
Instead of putting our trust in Him, we put our trust in the creation.
Imagine the reward for sposoring a hifdh child.

Your support provides a student with the financial means to complete the course. It is one of the best forms of Sadaqah Jariyah and the donor can expect to receive Allah's blessings so long as the recipient remains alive. If the recipient has passed on his learning before his death, then the rewards continue through the vehicle of his students.

May Allah accept the work that we are doing purely for His sake, reward every single person who donates and/or wishes to donate but may be unable. May He bless us with reaching and benefitting from this amazing month of Ramadhan, accept our fasting and ibadah and make us of those who will be in Jannah Firdous and see His face. Ameen.
We currently have 3 Just Giving pages at the moment.

The newest being for Widows and Orphans in Syria.

Feed our World, which will help feed many fasting people in 20 different countries around the world.

and last but not least

An amazing organisation set up to help revert sisters in difficulty

May this year be our best Ramadhan. Ameen

Please don't forget our monthly committments too. We need to pay for those needs each month as they are in such a need that they have very little help elsewhere.

Alhamdulillah we are currently sponsoring 2 orphans from Gaza, one in Morocco, Syria and Sudan.
4 families in Morocco whom all need monthly medication. A single sister in Gambia with young children and a family in Palestine who we have been supporting for some time but sadly the Mother has recently returned to Allah after her struggle with cancer. We have made a pledge to carry on supporting the family with as much as we are able fi sabilIllah.
Please donate for the above commitments via Paypal above to mekkaouis@yahoo.com

Jazakum'Allahu Khairan

Fi amanIllah

2:184

[Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. And whoever volunteers excess - it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew.

2:185

The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful. 2:184-185
